'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await News After Alpine Fire
The loved ones of teens unaccounted for after a tragic fire at a venue in a Swiss winter destination are confronting an excruciating wait for official news and pleading for information about their children via social media.
The blaze engulfed the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Verified images show the roof structure igniting as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take an extended period to formally name the fatalities of the disaster, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and injured another 119. Authorities noted on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to locate the other six.
In the meantime, families and friends have been posting on the internet to appeal for clues about their loved ones who were in attendance that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, explained to a publication that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she told the paper.
She explained that some of his peers had been discovered with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has said that six of its nationals have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, who hailed from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who represented dedication and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An representative has indicated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.

Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His mother said that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him informed me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators said, "I remember his good nature and smile, coupled with great responsibility. Every time ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives permanently in the country, was also at the bar on that night, according to media.
Her brother has published an appeal on social media, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are actively engaged with the situation.
